Frequently Asked Questions
What is a Postpartum Doula?
A postpartum doula is someone that provides emotional and physical support to the family and baby during the Fourth trimester (the first three months after baby is born) as well as providing assistance and help with light household needs during that transition.
Note: postpartum doulas do not provide any medical services, but will have resources to refer to professionals as needed.
How is this different than a nanny?
Great question! A nanny is hired to specifically help with older children and their needs while a postpartum doula cares for both mother and baby during this big transition.
Will a lactation visit be included in your time with me?
I’d be thrilled to be able to specifically help with breastfeeding while I’m with your family as a postpartum doula. We can add an eval and follow up onto your package at a reduced cost of $150 for both sessions.
What types of things will you do while you’re at my house?
This will depend on what you need the most! For example, if you really enjoy cooking/baking, then I can help with baby while you cook a meal. On the flip side, if the idea of cooking sounds completely overwhelming, I can make your meal and you can sit with baby. Same with household chores such as laundry, dishes or light cleaning. Need a nap or shower? I can watch baby while you take care of yourself. These things can be established when we set up the times that I will come to you, but can always change depending on how you are feeling that day or week. I truly want you to feel the best you can in this transition and can provide non-judgmental guidance on caring for baby and yourself.
When can you start?
Give me a call, send a text or email and we can get your package set up! See “Services” for package details. I can come to you as soon as a few days after birth, if that’s what you prefer. If you’re pregnant now and want to have this set up prior to birth, I’d be happy to do that! I’d be honored to help you during this time.
